Phantom Drone FAQ's

My aerial photos and videos were taken with the Phantom 2 Vision Quadcopter (Drone).  DJI is the company that makes this drone.  There are several different version that come with or without a camera.  Mine comes with a camera (that's the vision part of the name).  You can also buy them without and add a GoPro camera if you would like.

One benefit of the Vision is that I can see what the camera sees using my iPhone.  The controller has a WiFi extender that allows the drone to send a signal to my phone so I can see what the camera sees.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How High Can It Go? The range on the website say 300 meters or about 985 feet.  At 400 feet I get way to nervous and usually bring it down.  At that height it can be difficult to even see it.

How Long Can You Fly? About 25 minutes on one battery.  You can switch out batteries with the push of a button.

What Is The Quality Of The Pictures?  Its a 14 megapixel camera and video is up to 1080p (High Def)  There is a fish-eye affect but I hear that there are some corrective lenses that will be available in the future.

Is It Easy To Fly? Yes, this is the first radio controlled quadcopter I have ever flown.  It syncs with GPS satellites to help keep it stable in flight.

What Happens If You Lose The Signal With The Drone?  If you have followed the proper procedure when you take off you should be okay.   The drone is designed to return to "home" if it ever loses contact with the controller.   It will fly to the spot it took off from and slowly land.

How Much Is It?  That just depends on the model you get.  Check out the two links below.  DJI is the company that makes the Phantom.  Locally HobbyTown USA in Folsom sells them.

Where can you get a Phantom Drone?  I purchased my directly from the company that makes them.  DJI Website

I have also seen them at HobbyTown in Folsom. HobbyTown USA

  2. Great footage! it appears to be very stable. Did you utilize video stabilization, of does it film that way?
