Capital Village - Rancho Cordova - From 150 Feet Above

Capital Village is one of the more unique neighborhoods in the Sacramento area.   It does grab your attention when you drive by just because the homes stand out with their bright colors.

As a Realtor I always love showing in Capital Village because the properties are so interesting.  Not too many three story homes in Sacramento.

I hope you enjoy the quick overhead tour from about 150 feet above.

Fair Oaks Cemetery

In 1902 a group of interested local citizens banded together to form The Fair Oaks Cemetery Association. The group purchased two and a half acres at Olive and New York Avenues for $250.00 for a community burial ground.  The Cemetery Association was incorporated November 3, 1903.
In 1926, a large majority of citizens petitioned the county for a taxing district. Thus the Fair Oaks Cemetery District was formed August 28, 1926 as a Public Cemetery, by resolution of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors.
Two of the earliest burials at the Fair Oaks Cemetery are Lillian Maude Shelton and Nellie Williams, who both died in 1898. The first "official" burial was that of Mrs. Sarah Vail in 1903.
Of the many veterans buried in the Fair Oaks Cemetery, there are about a dozen who saw service in the Civil War.

I happend to be driving down Highway 80 and saw this sunflower field right next to the freeway.  Wish the flowers had been looking up at the sun like they do when they first open up.  Well, it gives me a reason to go back huh.

Brye House - Old Town Auburn

The Fred Brye Home was built in 1882.  The original owner of this home, Charles Simons, came to Auburn in 1850 to try his hand at being a miner.  He later became an owner of a saloon in town.  Around 1900 the home was sold to Fred Brye, a local butcher.  His family lived in the home for about 20 years.

The home has been converted many times in its history.  It was used as a 12-unit apartment, a christmas store and most recently an office building.

I can imagine back in the 1800's this was a beautiful estate on a large hill overlooking the town and courthouse.
